FAQs
Are these downloads or DVDs? What can I watch them on? — These are downloads – THEY ARE NOT DVDs. They’re in an .mp4 format, which means you can play them on just about any computer, laptop, ipod, blackberry, iphone, PSP, iPad, xbox, television (by connecting a media player) or whatever. If you want to watch them on a DVD, then you can burn them to DVD yourself (you will need to know how to do this and have the right kind of software. Some DVDs/BlueRays do play .mp4 files – check your machine). You can copy it for your own use, too – so if you want to download it onto one computer and then transfer it to another you own, you’ll be able to do that.
How do I know if these are any good? We have earned rave reviews from sites like Cyclingnews.com, Bike Radar, Velonews, Pez Cycling News and more. See our reviews page.
Can I give these as a gift? Sure. Just buy our gift codes!
Are they difficult to download? — Nope. Just purchase the video and you’ll get a link in your email (check your junk/spam folder if you have anti-spam turned on). Click on that link and you’ll be able to download the file to wherever you like on your computer. It’s a .zip file, so extract the .mp4 inside. Then you can import into iTunes or play in whatever media player you like. See the trouble shooting section below for more information on playing the videos.
My link expired before I could download. What can I do? — Just email me (david @ thesufferfest.com) and I’ll send you a new link.
How do I get this on my iPad? You have to first download to your computer, import to iTunes and then synch. You can NOT download directly to your iPad first.
I use GoogleMail (gmail) and the link doesn’t seem to be working? — Sometimes gmail has trouble with the link for some reason. Try copying it and pasting it into your browser address bar rather than clicking on it.
Which video should I buy first? — That depends on what kind of workout you’re looking for. At one extreme sits Revolver, which is seriously intense, flat-out, short intervals. At the other extreme sits Hell Hath No Fury, which is about longer, less-intense efforts. They are all very hard, though, so be ready!
I’m not ready for really hard workouts or intervals. Can I still use these? – Of course! It’s really down to you how hard you want to go. The videos will give you suggested effort levels, but if you want to go a bit easier than that, you can do whatever you like!
How does this work? Is there a coach or something yelling at me what to do? – Each video is based on a specific workout. That includes a warm-up, transition to the main set, main set, and warm-down. On-screen instructions tell you what to do at each stage. So, you’ll be told that you need, for example, to do a 2:00 minute interval at an effort level of 8/10 (the videos explain the effort levels). We usually leave cadence up to you as it’s such a personal think but sometimes will recommend a specific cadence. Then, during the interval, you’ll watch professional racing footage of cyclists doing what you’re supposed to be doing. So, if you’re supposed to be doing a climb, you’ll see climbing footage on screen. If you’re supposed to attack, you’ll see an attack.
I thought turbo training was supposed to be boring, but I actually had FUN doing your videos. Is this ok? — As long as you suffered, fun is ok. This is enterPAINment, after all.
I LOVE a song on one of the videos. Can I buy it off you? — I don’t sell the individual tracks. However, there is a full listing of all the artists on each video page, so you can go to them and buy the song from there.
Is this legal? — Yep! All the video and music is officially licensed.
I ordered the back-up CD along with my videos. How long will that take? — About 3 to 4 weeks.
My computer blew up and I lost all the videos I bought from you. Can I have them again? — If you lose the files within 30 days of buying, I will resend you the link. After that however, you’re on your own and if you lose the files you’ll have to re-purchase them. However – during the ordering process, I offer a one-year download guarantee for $5 USD. If you buy that, then I can resend you the downloads anytime you lose the files.
What does IWBMATTKYT mean? — I Will Beat My Ass Today To Kick Yours Tomorrow.
I want to look good while I’m out on my bike. Any fashion advice? – Someone of your good taste should be sporting the Sufferfest Team Kit and, off the bike, our range of t-shirts. No doubt you’ll impress spectators with your sporting prowess and fashion sense.
Where, exactly, is Sufferlandria? – You go hard enough, deep enough, long enough, you’ll find it.
TROUBLESHOOTING/WATCHING THE VIDEOS
Downloading
The first thing you need to do is make sure the video is on your computer. You’ll be able to do this by downloading it from the thank-you screen after purchase or the link on the email you receive. Save it wherever you like, but make sure you save it somewhere where you’ll remember. These files are very, very large. The individual version is usually around 1.5 GB, while the group & class version can be double that (b/c it includes both the individual and group videos). Please make sure you’ve got an excellent connection before starting the download.
The File
The file itself is an .mp4, which should work on just about any computer with any settings. If you play the file back and experience stop/start motion or jerky pictures, then you might have either a performance issues with your computer (it’s not powerful enough to play large video files) or a settings issue. If you think it is a settings issue, you can download a free VLC player here which will allow you to play the video on your machine regardless of settings.
Watching
iPod or iPhone or iPad using iTunes
If you want to watch the video on your iThingy, then you have to import the file into iTunes. This is how you do it:
- Open iTunes on your computer by double clicking on the iTunes icon.
-
Click on “File > Add to Library.”
-
Browse for video files. Search folders where you might have stored videos—try “My Documents,” “My Videos” or “My Received Files.”
-
Select one or more files and click “OK” or “Open.”
-
You can also drag-and-drop video files from a folder (navigate folders with the “My Computer” or Windows Explorer feature) to the open iTunes window.
- NOTE: Sufferfest videos might show up in the ‘Movies’ section of your iTunes, rather than in videos, so be sure to look there for it.
- Make sure your iTunes is set up for ‘manual’ synching of movies.
There is also a video you can watch here.
For some reason, some iPhones/pads/pods have problems syncing movies in a ‘large’ format (like our videos). This isn’t an issue with the Sufferfest file, but rather with iTunes. If you can see the video in your iTunes, but you can’t get it on your iPhone then you’ll need to convert the file to a ‘medium’ format. Just Ctrl+click (mac) or right-click (PC) on the file in iTunes and then on ‘Convert to iPhone.’ If you don’t see anything when you right click on the file, look at the iTunes toolbar for the ‘Advanced’ tab – in there you’ll see a ‘convert’ option. This will then reformat the file, which might take a little while, but which should sort the problem out.
It all should work pretty smoothly and you should be suffering before you know it. If, however, you have any problems, just drop me a line at david at thesufferfest.com
