Now that’s an autograph beatdown…

Just got an email today all the way from one Fabrizio in Milan, Italy. He took the time to do an interview with himself about his experiences with The Sufferfest. I loved it! I figured I’d share it with you. PS. Fabrizio – I hope I never meet you…not looking forward to that autograph! ; – )

IS FIGHT CLUB YOUR FIRST SUFFERFEST WORKOUT?
Nope. I did Angels already; I wanted to cry during those 8 min climbs; and the attacks were hard to sustain.

WHY YOU USE THESE VIDEOS? MAYBE YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCED IN INDOOR CYCLING:
Not at all.  I am well experienced in cardio bike, and I either train in groups (in the past even with a competitive ironman as instructor) or on my own. At home I just use music with random choice and I put the max resistance I can handle consistently with the rythm of the song; I  also perform jumps or out of the saddle pedalling and sprints or repeats.  Therefore the training I organise is always varied and very much intense.

SO, WHY YOU USE THOSE VIDEOS ?
Because I always need to try something new. I started with Angels because I am a triathlete and I need to develop endurance. Climbs with attacks sounded a very good way of training my endurance, and I was not disappointed at all.  On the contrary the beautiful images make one feel less lonely, and like being really in a race.  The writings on the screen are always nice and motivating. One does not have to follow the music rythm, which is a big change for me, but working on a suggested cadence is really motivating and painfully fun.

SO YOU DECIDED TO GO FOR FIGHT CLUB.
I thought it was a valid and useful complement to Angels. Not focused on climbs but on attacks, and with a pretty messed up structure, very much unpredictable.

IS FIGHT CLUB MORE INTENSE THAN ANGELS ?
I do not know, really. Different torture, but very intense for both.  The small climbs in FIght Club are first class pain : 8/10 intensity, which means high resistance and relatively high cadence. Real agony.

ARE THOSE ATTACKS IN FIGHT CLUB REALLY TOUGH AS CLAIMED ?
Nope, they are worse than that!  And more than the attacks, the real challenge is to come back to previous level of effort, because your legs are heavy as concrete…

DID YOU ENJOY YOUR FIRST FIGHT CLUB EXPERIENCE ?
The images are great, especially the one for the Tempo Training, with first level chrono racers.  I was worried about music, since I am not so fond of electronic/trance music, but I have to say that fits nicely with the workout.
After Fight Club I was soaking wet and exhausted, but since I want to be a be proud citizen of Sufferland I took a good run after that:  13 km at 4’52” / km (8,4 miles at 7’50″/mile).  Not bad, considering how heavy were my legs.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND SUFFERFEST VIDEOS TO YOUR FRIENDS ?
Absolutely. And if they cannot perform them, they will. Those vids are so motivating, and allow good flexibility in the way to perform the workout.

WILL YOU BUY ANOTHER VIDEO FROM SUFFERFEST.
Sure. And most likely the next one is going to be Local Hero. It sounds ideal training for long distances!

SO IF YOU HAD THE POSSIBILITY OF MEETING DAVID; WOULD YOU ASK HIS AUTOGRAPH ?
No. I would leave my autograph on his lower back kicking his ass using both feet for 3 minutes at level of effort 7/10. With few unexpected attacks of course.  :-P

hahaha self-interview. Good idea. I keep reading comments about how painful these videos are. DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is my favorite. If I don’t feel at least a little sore the day after a work out I don’t feel like I’ve worked hard enough. I think I’m going to order my first video!
